Spaceships (A Taco Bell Copycat)

It's easier than you think to make this copycat "Spaceship" at home!

Crunchwrap Supreme Copycat AKA Spaceships - make this Taco Bell meal at home! #copycat #TacoBell #recipe

This is one of my favorite copycats to make. I am going to have an updated version posted soon (it's April 2017 and I'm updating old posts with little to no words) in a whole new post because it took me many years to figure out how to brown it without messing it up completely. Hence the non-browned picture here! Plus a commenter was kind enough to tell me exactly how Taco Bell does it and it was much appreciated to have the lowdown on the proper way to make it.

(Print)
What you need:
  • 6 burrito-size flour tortillas (I used Azteca flour tortillas, but I wish I would've gotten a little bigger ones)
  • 6 corn tortillas
  • 1/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 lb. ground turkey or beef
  • 1 pkg. taco seasoning (you can even use the Taco Bell brand seasoning)
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 cup lettuce, shredded
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • Sour cream
Directions:
  1. Brown the ground meat in heated olive oil over medium high heat. Follow directions on taco seasoning package to season meat (usually you need 3/4 cup of water and simmer for 5 minutes).
  2. Place corn tortillas in oven on broil to make crisp. Watch them carefully so they are crispy but don't burn.
  3. Lay all of the flour tortillas out flat and divide the meat mixture among the evenly. Make sure you put them in the center. Depending on the thickness of your flour tortilla, you may want to put the corn tortilla down first (which I will do next time) because it will tear when you go to eat it.
  4. Place corn tortilla on top of seasoned meat.
  5. Place lettuce, tomato, cheese on top and carefully fold flour tortillas up around corn tortilla.
  6. Place each spaceship on a grill just to brown the flour tortilla. (I skipped these steps - b/c I was lazy)
  7. You should flip and grill the other side if the flour tortilla overlaps the center.
  8. Serve with sour cream on top or inside the wrap. You could also use other toppings or sauces, to your liking. Traditional Crunchwraps use lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream :)

This isn't a copycat recipe, but it's one of my favorite ways to do tacos: Taco Ring. While not a main dish recipe, this copycat Taco Bell Caramel Apple Empanadas recipe from Something Swanky is high on my list to make.

I used to work at taco bell so here is the order of how they put down the ingredients:

flour tortilla, then nacho cheese and ground beef, then corn tortilla, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and finally cheese. Fold and grill.
