Carmel Rolls

This is a super simple, AWESOME recipe! I don't know if it's an original from my mom or if she got it from somewhere else, but seriously...you gotta try it! It's the most delicious thing ever!

(Print)
What you need:
  • 1 loaf frozen bread dough (I always have used Rhodes because my mom did!)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, plus some
  • Cinnamon

Directions:

Thaw your bread dough. I normally do mine in a meatloaf pan and cover it with saran wrap.
It only takes a few hours.
Prepare your carmel, by bringing water, butter and 1/2 cup brown sugar JUST to a boil.
Remove from heat and pour into a glass baking dish.
Roll out your dough into a rectangle of desired length and width.
It's all up to you how big you want your rolls to be.

Sprinkle dough with cinnamon and brown sugar, to your preference.

Roll up and cut into 2-inch wide slices.

Place in the baking dish and cover with saran wrap.
Let rise for an hour or two, so they are all touching each other and ginormous!

Bake at 350 for 13 to 15 minutes.

Serve carmel-side up. I dare you not to scarf down the whole pan!

My mom made these all the time when I was growing up. I like to make mine the night before and just keep them covered with foil until the next morning. It does take some preparation with the thawing and rising, but 5 ingredients and very quick actual making and baking times! The one I photographed didn't stand upright so ignore that false representation - carmel side up! LOL

YUM! My mom used to make caramel rolls when we were little. Now she usually just makes cinnamon rolls, I'm not sure why she quit the caramel but we sure did love it!
