Homemade Hamburger Helper

No artificial taste to this copycat recipe and it can easily be doubled to feed more people.

Homemade Hamburger Helper // No artificial taste to this copycat recipe and it can easily be doubled to feed more people. #recipe #beef #copycat #pasta

When I was a kid, the bane of my existence was Hamburger Helper. And you may wonder, then why are you posting a copycat recipe on your blog? Well, this isn't really a copycat. It's similar, but it tastes way better than out of the box. My mom made Hamburger Helper a lot and I always despised the weird artificial taste. When I found this recipe, I figured I would try it and see if I liked it or not. I ended up loving this recipe! It was such a good seasoning mix and it didn't taste weird like the out of the box stuff. This is a copycat recipe I can get behind!

What you need:
  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp. minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. dried minced onions
  • 2 Tbsp. dried parsley
  • 3 Tbsp. beef bouillon
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp. brown gravy mix
  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups water
  • 2 cups pasta, like bowtie pasta or elbow macaroni
Directions:
  1. In a bowl, mix together all the spices. Set aside.
  2. In a stockpot, add ground beef and cook and crumble over medium high until browned.
  3. Add spice mix and stir well. Add tomato sauce and stir well.
  4. Add chicken broth and water - 3 cups if you want it very saucy - stir well.
  5. Add macaroni and stir. Then bring to a boil.
  6. Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer and cover.
  7. Cook, covered, for 15 minutes or until pasta is tender. Make sure you stir every couple of minutes so the pasta doesn't stick to the bottom and burn.

When in doubt, pasta is for dinner around here - including Taco Tuesday night! I love this One Pot Taco Goulash for a quick meal. I have had this Master Mix of three Hamburger Helper recipes from Tip Garden saved for many many years.
