Cookie Week: Totally Addicting Snickerdoodles


I made these a little over 9 months ago when my husband was in the field and the battalion was holding a family day event where all the soldiers got to come in and hang out for most of the day, eat some food, and maybe even grab a quick shower. I made 4 different kinds of cookies the night before and brought them. The snickerdoodles were gone in a flash.

I've looked up addicting and addictive. The word usage has always confused me. Apparently the two are interchangeable. I personally think addictive just sounds better and less wrong in all situations. So mini grammar lesson - use whichever you prefer! They are both right!

This recipe is slightly different than a recipe I posted in March 2012. I think this one is also slightly better. I don't really know how to explain it. They seem more puffy and light. More melt-in-your-mouth.

What you need:
  • 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs, at room temp
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cream of tarter
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 tsp. cinnamon
Directions:
  1. Cream together butter, shortening, and 1 1/2 cups sugar.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla; mix until combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, cream of tarter, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add to butter mixture. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. Mix together 4 tbsp. sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Roll dough into walnut-sized balls and then roll in cinnamon sugar mixture.
  6. Bake at 375* for 8 minutes. Let rest on cookie sheet for 2 minutes and then remove to wire rack.
