Copycat Hodad Bacon Cheeseburgers

Copycat Hodad Bacon Cheeseburgers | As seen on Triple D, these burgers have 2 patties - one ground beef and the other - BACON!

At our house, we used to have pizza every Friday and I started getting really sick of it. I also really started to crave burgers. So now our routine is every other Friday is pizza (homemade, of course) and the other Fridays are burger nights!

I've shared my love for Triple D a couple times, so when I found this recipe that was a take on something that aired on Triple D - I was infinitely more excited to try it. I remember watching the episode with the Hodad Bacon Cheeseburger and how much I really wanted to try it even though it's ginormous. That's definitely a burger you share.

This version of the Hodad burger is much smaller, but still one of the best burgers ever. This burger contains a patty of cheesy bacony goodness. A bacon patty with 2 pieces of cheese. For the patty of bacon, I wasn't able to form one just like you do with ground beef, so I just put the bacon onto my griddle in little mounds and flattened them. Once they start crisping up, they start to stick together. It's definitely a learning process on what works best though - in the end, it's totally worth it.

What you need:
  • 1 package bacon
  • American cheese
  • 1 to 2 lbs. ground beef
  • Salt and pepper
  • Good quality hamburger buns
  • Mayonnaise
  • Mustard
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced in thin rings
  • Ketchup
  • Pickles
  • Tomatoes
  • Lettuce leaves
Directions:
  1. Chop up your bacon and cook in a saucepan with enough water to cover it. Cover and bring to a boil. Simmer for 45 minutes.
  2. Drain bacon and chop some more. Form into little patties (I made four).
  3. Cook patties on a hot griddle until crisp on each side. Place 2 slices of cheese on top while the remaining side crisps up.
  4. Meanwhile, form ground beef into 4 patties and season with salt and pepper on each side. Cook in a skillet until done.
  5. Meanwhile, toast the buns. Don't skip this step, it really helps to hold the whole thing together and honestly, burgers are just better with toasted buns!
  6. To build, spread mayo on the bottom bun, mustard on the top bun, then onion, ketchup, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce. Top with one patty and one bacon patty; then the top bun and they are good to go! Devour 'em!
