Asparagus, Bacon, & Herbed Cheese Pizza

The perfect springtime pizza with asparagus, bacon, and dollops of rich herbed cream cheese!

I have found many recipes lately with a little cream cheese in them and I don't know what it is but I'm obsessed with it. I have always been a light on the sauce for pizza person, and I find that I really love pizzas that don't have red sauce (and I use pasta sauce for pizza sauce and I love pasta sauce). This pizza has olive oil and I love that the toppings are so simple but so delicious. I love the asparagus and bacon. Plus those little dollops of cream cheese - yum! That bit of super rich savory flavor is fantastic.

What you need:

  • 1 prepared pizza crust, baked slightly for 5 to 10 minutes
  • 6 tsp. olive oil, divided
  • 1 cup shredded Vermont sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup garlic-herb spreadable cream cheese
  • 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

Directions:

  1. Brush top of prebaked pizza crust with 4 tsp. olive oil.
  2. Top with cheese, asparagus, and bacon.
  3. Drop cream cheese by the teaspoon over the top of the crust.
  4. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes and drizzle with remaining 2 tsp. olive oil.
  5. Bake in a preheated 450 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until cheese is slightly browned.

My husband has gone to San Diego many times in the last couple of years (more in 2019 than this year or last) and we made Copycat Prado's Flatbread Pizza in two different varieties from one of his favorite restaurants there. This Chicken Florentine Flat Bread Pizza from Creme de la Crumb has spinach and cherry tomatoes on top and that is another one of my favorite combinations of ingredients.
