This copycat appetizer is so good that you won't be able to eat just one of the fried cheese balls with a jalapeno bite.
I always get nervous making fried cheese recipes. I initially thought this recipe used a couple of blocks of pepper jack and you made large cubes. It was surprising to find it was shredded cheese. It was super nerve wracking and I was hoping that it would turn out, as these were treats for NYE 2019. They did turn out well and we all loved them. They did not last long at all. What you need:
- 16 oz. shredded Pepper jack cheese
- 2 to 3 jalapenos, diced
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp. paprika
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- Oil for frying
Directions:
- In a bowl, combine pepper jack cheese and diced jalapenos.
- Form mixture into 1 1/2-inch balls, squeezing tightly.
- Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and freeze for 30 minutes.
- Place flour in a bowl or plate. Mix together egg and milk in a separate bowl. In another bowl or plate, mix together bread crumbs, cayenne, paprika, and garlic.
- Roll frozen cheese balls in flour, then milk, then bread crumbs.
- Fry in oil that has been preheated to 350 degrees for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove to a paper towel-lined plate.

All She Cooks shared this Copycat Texas Roadhouse Fried Pickles recipe and it looks amazing. It's our favorite appetizer there. Although they aren't cheese-based, these Soft Pretzel Bites are a great appetizer and they can be dunked in a queso dip or even a cheeseball if you're feeling sassy!
