Molasses Cookies

Molasses cookies are a staple of my childhood. I do love chocolate and anything with chocolate in it (well, mostly anything), but these were my very favorite cookies. They are crunchy on the outside and soft'n'gooey on the inside. They stay soft for many days. Not to mention, they are just plain good!

(Print)
What you need:
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
Directions:
Mix together butter, 1 cup sugar and egg until smooth.

Stir in molasses.

Combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and ginger.

Add to wet ingredients. Cover and chill dough for 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375. Roll dough into walnut-sized balls.

Roll into 1/2 cup sugar.

Place cookies 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until tops are cracked.

Cool on wire rack.

Seeing this recipe reminds me that I need to buy some molasses to add to my pantry so that I'll be able to whip up cookies like these. Thanks for sharing on A Well-Seasoned Life's Sweet Indulgences Sunday.
