It's me again - I'm stealing my husband's week of spotlight for one day to share a recipe I made with one of his beers :)
(Print)
What you need:
- 3 cups flour
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. sea salt
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 small apple, diced
- 1 cup sharp cheddar, shredded
- 1 tsp. minced onion
- 6 sprigs thyme, take off leaves and discard stems
- 12 oz. beer, at room temperature
- 1 egg, beaten with 2 Tbsp. water
Combine flour, sugar, sea salt, and baking powder in a bowl.
Add apple, cheddar, onion, and thyme. Stir.
Slowly stir in beer.
Place batter into a loaf pan and smooth out the top.
Brush with egg wash.
Bake at 375* for 45 minutes.
Cool for 10 minutes before eating.
This also makes for a great gift - just do step 1 and place in a Ziploc baggie. Place the dry ingredients, plus one beer, plus a hand towel or something decorative into a loaf pan. Tie it up with twine or decorate it similarly...and attach a little card that tells them what different add-ins there are, like this apple cheddar, and the only ingredients other than add-ins that they will need is the egg wash. Then just include the directions on how to make! You can find more variations and different add-ins you can do: here.
