Strawberry Shortcake Donuts #FantasticalFoodFight

Welcome to another Food Fight! Fantastical Food Fight is a group of food bloggers who will get a theme or ingredient each month and make some sort of variation for it. It could be traditional or nontraditional and can be found in a cookbook, on a blog, or be a blogger's own creation! For more details, check out this page.

This month's Fantastical Food Fight theme is STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE. I wasn't sure what I wanted to make for this month's food fight until I was meal planning. I was looking through my breakfast board on Pinterest and saw this recipe and knew it was the one. I was excited when I discovered it was an easy breakfast because I have not been very good at making breakfast recipes lately.

These donuts are basically like Chinese donuts. They are ridiculously easy to make and they are quick. All you need is a tube of refrigerated biscuits, cinnamon sugar, whipped cream, and strawberries. Plus oil to fry them in. The biscuit dough ends up light and fluffy. The strawberries and whipped cream were literally perfect with them. I could have eaten a whole batch by myself!

What you need:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits
  • Vegetable or canola oil for frying
  • Cool whip or aerosol whipped cream
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced
Directions:
  1. Mix together sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a 2-quart pot or deep fryer to about 350 degrees.
  3. Using a small round cookie cutter, cut holes in the center of each biscuit. Reserve holes to fry later.
  4.  Fry a few biscuits at a time, flipping once when the bottom is browned. It won't take very long.
  5. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate. While still hot, dip into cinnamon sugar and then place back on plate.
  6. Once donuts have cooled, top with whipped cream and strawberries. Enjoy!

The winner of the CARROT CAKE Food Fight is Asheera from Ashee's CookBook. Her Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting was the most popular and with good reason - it's absolutely stunning!
