Best Biscuits Ever

These stunning little biscuits easily and without a doubt live up to their name!

I think one of the best parts of cooking is that you get to try things that you may not have ever liked and turn them into something you DO like. I have had so many foods in the last 10 years or so when I really started branching out that I never would have touched as a kid or things I did eat as a kid that I despised despite not being a super picky. I never liked biscuits unless they were the refrigerated kind. Any type of buttermilk biscuit...nope. Not for me. I made homemade biscuits because unlike me, my children and husband LOVE biscuits. I tried them and fell in love. They are the best biscuits I've ever eaten. I highly recommend the brush of butter and sprinkle of salt at the end. They are fluffy, flaky, and just ridiculously good. Easily the BEST. BISCUITS. EVER.

What you need:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces and kept cold
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk or buttermilk
  • Coarse salt
  • A few tablespoons melted butter
Directions:
  1. Combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cream of tartar.
  2. Cut cold butter into dry ingredients with a pastry cutter until it resembles pea-sized pieces.
  3. Add egg and milk and mix until just combined. The dough will still be sticky.
  4. Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Sprinkle flour on top of dough and knead 10 to 15 times.
  5. Pat or roll out gently until about 1 inch thick. Cut with a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass. Repeat until you run out of dough. I always like to make an ugly biscuit with the last of the dough.
  6. Place biscuits onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake in a preheated 450 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Immediately after removing from the oven, brush with melted butter and sprinkle coarse salt on top of each biscuit.

I love making different kinds of breads when I can and have to give a bunch of thumbs up to these Pretzel Buns. I am very interested in trying these Sour Cream Biscuits from 5 Boys Baker that only have three ingredients!
