Quick & Tasty Cheesesteak Subs

A good thing about deployments is that I can test out recipes before my husband gets home. Especially ones that I think he will like, like this one. This was a huge success. I normally don't like cheesesteaks, but I thought this one was delicious! I added green peppers into the mix :)

(Print)
What you need:
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 onion, halved and sliced into thin half moons
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced into thin half moons
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
  • 2 tbsp. A1 steak sauce
  • 1 lb. deli roast beef, cut into 2-inch strips
  • Salt and pepper
  • 4 sub rolls, split apart (I used Kaiser rolls)
  • 8 slices Provolone cheese
Directions:
Preheat broiler.
In a large skillet, melt butter. Then add onion and cook until golden brown and soft, for about 8 minutes.

Add garlic and oregano. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

Add A-1 and roast beef. Stir to coat beef and cook for about 2 minutes.
Season to taste with salt and pepper. I added my peppers last so they were still a bit crunchy.

Place rolls on a baking sheet. Add meat mixture.
Top with cheese and broil for about 2 minutes, until cheese is melted.
Watch very closely! One thing I dislike about my broiler is how close it sits to the tray - gas oven with the broiler underneath. So...of course, I burned my bread :/
