Tasty Thursday #76: Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Welcome back to Tasty Thursday!!

My husband doesn't eat sloppy joes. Anymore. When he was little his mom called them hamburger doodles and he ate them, but then he grew up and realized the trickery behind hamburger doodles. I, on the other hand, love sloppy joes. LOVE. There is something so satisfying about a food that will end up all over your face as much as in your face. Since marriage is all about compromise, I try to find different methods behind foods I love and foods he hates, so that we will both like it.

These were super super super good. I can't even explain how good they were. The flavor of the meat was out of this world. It was so smokey and beefy and good! The cheese sauce, no matter how simple it looks, was also incredible. If I vomit enough exclamation points I think I can get my point across. These were awesome!!!!

What you need:
  • 1 lb. ground sirloin
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/4 cup A1 sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper
  • 4 dinner rolls
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup provolone cheese (we used Pepperjack)
Directions:
  1. In a skillet, brown ground sirloin with the onion and green bell over medium high heat. Drain, if needed.
  2. Add A1, broth, salt and pepper, to taste. Simmer for a few minutes.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add milk and bring to a boil. Let thicken for about 2 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and add cheese, stir until melted.
  6. Serve meat on buns (toasted if you like) topped with the cheese sauce.
