Smokey BBQ Ribs

Oven baked pork ribs that taste like they were made right on the grill!

I don't eat or make ribs very often. Honestly, the price point is one of the biggest deterrents for me. When they are on sale, I do love to pick some up. I've made ribs in the crockpot and while they were great, this recipe definitely trumps that recipe. I love how tender the ribs turn out from being slow cooked, but I feel like the sauce definitely sticks to these ribs (har de har) much better when cooked in the oven rather than the slow cooker. I used Sweet Baby Ray's Sweet Vidalia Onion BBQ Sauce...which is my all-time favorite.

What you need:
  • 1 lb. ribs
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 cups lemon lime soda
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 cups barbecue sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. liquid smoke
Directions:
  1. Cut ribs into smaller sections and put on a rack in a large shallow pan. Sprinkle minced garlic over the top of the ribs.
  2. Cover and bake in a preheated 450 degree oven for 45 minutes.
  3. About ten minutes before ribs are done, combine soda, brown sugar, honey, lemon juice, barbecue sauce, and liquid smoke in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  4. Remove meat from oven and move to a clean pan*. Pour sauce over meat.
  5. Lower heat to 350 degrees. Bake for 1 1/2 hours, uncovered, and brush with sauce every so often.
*Note: I lined my pan with foil and then removed the foil and replaced it with new foil instead of dirtying two pans.

If you can't babysit ribs in the oven for a couple of hours, this Slow Cooker BBQ Ribs recipe is the recipe for you! Stick it in the crockpot in the morning and broil it right before dinner. I'm dying to try these Memphis-Style Pork Ribs from Simply Recipes, because in my opinion, Tennessee has some of the best food in the states!
