Almost White Castle Hamburgers

I've never been to White Castle.

I have, however, had the displeasure of stomaching enjoying Krystal's! My husband LOVES Krystal's. The only plus side to Upstate NY may be the fact that we don't have one of them here. The north does White Castle, right? We don't have one of those either.

But the one thing my husband does have...is an amazingly awesome wife. I have spent the deployment finding recipes for him and testing them out. I figured it couldn't hurt to make these homemade. Homemade is better after all. They were so good. Sarah's is open for business! :D

Almost White Castle Hamburgers | These little burgers are just like the real thing (White Castle/Krystal's) and you can freeze them for a quick snack/meal! #recipe #copycat #WhiteCastle

(Print)
What you need:
  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 2 tbsp. water
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 24 small dinner rolls, square (I used King's Sweet Hawaiian rolls - yum!)
  • American cheese
  • pickles
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
Directions:

Preheat oven to 400*.
Mix ground beef with dry onion soup mix, egg, pepper, water and bread crumbs.
Press into a 10x15-inch jelly roll pan (using my 9x13-inch glass dish next time) and prick with fork.

Bake for 10 minutes and let cool (drain, if needed)
Cut into 24 squares and put on dinner rolls. Squirt roll with ketchup and mustard.
Top with pickles and cheese (not pictured). Serve.

*The great thing about these little guys is that you can freeze them! I froze the little hamburger patties to nuke up at a later time. I also wrapped a few made ones in saran wrap and stuck them in a baggie for the next day. I'm sure you could also wrap in saran wrap or wax paper and freeze the whole burger too.
